Dear Parents and Caregivers

On Sunday I had the pleasure of watching some of our Year 4, 5 and 6 students participate in the Tournament of Minds (TOM) Competition at Flinders University. TOM is an opportunity for students with a passion for learning and problem solving to demonstrate their skills and talents in an exciting, vibrant and public way.

Over the past 6 weeks the 2 TOM teams have worked together to prepare their response to a challenge. The challenge focusses on students working collaboratively in all areas of the response from writing a script, working on props, learning lines and performing their response.

Congratulations to both TOM teams for their fantastic effort. The teams will present their responses to the School Community this Friday at the William St Assembly which will begin at the earlier time of 2pm.

Catholic Charities Month

September is traditionally known as Catholic Charities Month in the Adelaide Archdiocese.

Through fundraising, almost half the funds raised will support the work of charities such as:  Centacare, St Joseph’s Family Care Centre, Hutt Street Centre, Catherine House, St Patrick’s and Our Lady of La Vang Schools and Catholic Deaf Association.

These donations are directed towards helping over 30,000 people who may suffer from various forms of poverty. The care providers funded by Catholic Charities operate quietly and effectively day by day. They restore hope and dignity to the needy and disadvantaged in our community.

In consultation with the Social Justice Leaders we have decided to have a SJMS has got Talent morning. Over the past few weeks, students have been auditioning to participate in this event. On Thursday 26 September between 11am – 1pm students will have the opportunity to see these fabulous performances for a gold coin donation in the Parish Hall. Parents, caregivers and friends are welcome to join us as well for a gold coin donation.
