A message from the Assistant Principal (RIM)

04.06.18

Dear Parents / Caregivers,

It is difficult to comprehend that we are midway through the term. Where has this time gone? We give thanks to God for the changing of the Seasons. We may not enjoy the colder weather, but it is part of the cycle of life. During June and July, St Vincent de Paul hold their Winter Appeal. The SVDP organisation works tirelessly to support families in our community with warm clothing, blankets and food. This week I will be meeting with the Social Justice leaders to determine what the SJMS community will do to support this appeal. Details will follow.

Feast of Corpus Christi

On Sunday, we celebrated the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. This feast day reminds us of the Last Supper when Jesus shared a meal with his disciples to celebrate the Passover festival. At this meal, Jesus told his friends that he was giving up his life for them and that he wanted them to remember him every time they gathered to eat a community meal.

This is what we do when we gather at Mass each Sunday. We gather to share stories about Jesus and pray together. The Eucharist is important because we remember Jesus’ final meal with his friends and how he sacrificed his life for us. Our participation at Eucharist brings us closer to Jesus and God.

Sacred Heart of Jesus – Friday 8 June

The feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is an opportunity to be joyful together and to give thanks to God for loving us deeply and for always. Jesus shows us the depth of God’s love by the way he lived his life, and in his willingness to do what God asked of him. Because of Jesus, we are called the children of God.

Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

O most holy heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing,

I adore you, I love you, and with lively sorrow for my sins.

I offer you this poor heart of mine.

Make me humble, patient, pure and wholly obedient to your will.

Grant, Good Jesus that I may live in you and for you.

Protect me in the midst of danger.

Comfort me in my afflictions.

Give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs,

your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death.

Amen.

Tournament of Minds (TOM)

This year we will be nominating a team made up of 7 students from Years 5, 6 and 7 for the Tournament of Minds Challenge which will be held in September.

Tournament of Minds (TOM) is a problem-solving programme. Its aim is to enhance the potential of students by developing diverse skills, enterprise, time management, and the discipline to work collaboratively within a challenging and competitive environment. TOM is an opportunity for students with a passion for learning and problem solving to demonstrate their skills and talents in an exciting, vibrant and public way.

We look forward to what this challenge brings!

Until next time,

Grace Vassallo-Wakefield
