I would also like to share my appreciation to our hard working Parents and Friends Committee who have been instrumental in the organisation and preparation of the Quiz Night event.
RECESS AND LUNCH TIME ACTIVITIES
In the past few weeks, we have introduced new activities for the students to undertake during their break times. As a part of National Science Week, Ms DeSisto organised an experiment with slime and making bubbly toothpaste for the students during a break time.
Our new Social Work students from UniSA have introduced drawing and games activities for the students too.
Mr Ryan has also organised lunctime actvities including a paper plane club.
CHILDREN'S UNIVERSITY
Congratulations to Sienna and Iris for receiving a gold star to recognise their commitment and work towards the Children's University program. Both students have undertaken the most hours and activities so far this year.
CROSS COUNTRY
Well done to 56 students from years 3 to 6 who attended the SACPSSA Cross Country Carnival. The students had a great experience running against their peers from all different Catholic schools. Congratulations Paris who finished in first place overall in the Division A Boys competition. Well done to all the students for their strong running performances throughout the day. Thanks to all the teachers, and parents who volunteered their time to help, and it was great seeing so many parents spectating on the day.
HAVE YOUR SAY ABOUT OUR SCHOOL – SURVEY CLOSES 18 AUGUST 2023
Each year we run a survey to get parent feedback about our school. This survey helps us keep track of what we have been doing and helps us plan for what we should do in the future. This is your chance to share your thoughts.

Dear Parents and Caregivers
Feast of the Assumption
Yesterday we celebrated the feast of the Assumption of Mary. We commemorate Mary’s passing from this world into the glory of her risen Son. We remember that Mary was especially chosen by God to be the mother of Jesus. Mary was a holy and prayerful woman who showed great trust and love for God
Catholic Charities
"Never see a need without doing something about it" was one of the sayings of St Mary MacKillop. Each year, the Adelaide Archdiocese appeals for help for Catholic Charities that support families and communities within Adelaide. This week, you will receive information about these charities and the work that they do. Please consider donating as your support will go a long way to support others.
MITIOG
This week, you would have received information regarding our Made in the Image of God (MITIOG) program.
Our Catholic understanding is that every human being is a person made in the image and likeness of God and each person is an unrepeatable, irreplaceable being whose body and innermost self are nurtured by the love and care of self and of others.
The MITIOG program acknowledges that:
There is an inalienable dignity and worth that calls for the respect and honour for each person.
It is not just how we are seen, but who we are.
It is about how we connect with others through a developing sense of belonging, wellbeing and security.
Should you have any questions regarding MITIOG, please contact me via email or phone.
A reminder that there is Kiss and Drop Zone ONLY in front of Bridge Street and William Street from 8-9am and 3-4pm Monday to Friday. You must not leave your vehicle and take your child/ren to class – this has been causing congestion for parents wanting to use the zone as intended.
Please note that the sign states:
IMMEDIATE PICK UP AND DROP OFF ONLY
2 MIN MAX
8-9 am and again 3-4 pm
SCHOOL DAYS
DRIVER MUST REMAIN WITH THE VEHICLE
Please consider this when dropping off/collecting your child from school.
Preschool parents and caregivers will need to find alternative parking as they need to sign their child in and out of Preschool.
Please be advised that Parking Inspectors do patrol the area and parents/caregivers may be fined.
We thank you in anticipation of your support in this matter. Your child's safety is our priority.
Book Week Theme: READ, GROW, INSPIRE
This year we are celebrating Book Week in Week 5.
Have you organised your costume yet?
Children are encouraged to be dressed in their favourite book character costume. Please make sure that children are comfortable and warm for the rest of the day.
Sensible shoes to be worn please.

Bridge Street children will walk to William Street Campus (weather permitting) at 9.10am for a 9.30am start at William Street in the PAS.

To the SJMS community
My name is Shayla and I am the new OSHC Director at St Joseph's Memorial School. I am currently in my third year of studying Primary teaching and I can’t wait to meet more of the community members in the next few weeks.
In my spare time, I thoroughly enjoy playing club netball and spending time with family and friends, as well as my dog Marley.
If you see me around, please feel free to come and introduce yourself, whilst I adjust and begin to familiarise myself with all of the new faces in the community that I am thankful to now be a part of.
I am looking forward to introducing new activities and foods for the students to enjoy in the OSHC service.
If you would like to get in contact with me, please email me at scooper@sjms.catholic.edu.au
Thank you
Shayla

St Joseph's Memorial School provides a safe environment for all while valuing the partnership between school and home.
As a Catholic community, we welcome and value volunteers. To be able to volunteer, and/or attend at other times throughout the school year, we ask that you hold the following:
- A current Catholic Police Check (parents/caregivers attending excursions, reading in class, helping in class, attending community events);
- A current Responding to Abuse and Neglect in Education and Care for Volunteers certificate (please click here to view how to complete this requirement);
- Completed the volunteers application.
A Catholic Police Check for volunteers at SJMS are free for our current parents and caregivers. Application Forms are available to download here or at either school office.
We ask that you present your completed form with verification ID to the front office, and we will submit the application on your behalf. You will then receive an email link to complete the process online. Once all cleared you will receive a Catholic Police Check ID card in the post, please bring this in to the front office and we will take a copy of your clearance.
This process ensures we maintain a child safe environment. To avoid disappointment, we encourage you to apply for a Catholic Police Check through either school office as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at either office.
Thanking you
